How to Play Blues Scales on the 12 Hole Ocarina

About the Blues Scales
#

A blues scale is a minor pentatonic scale with one extra note squeezed in, the flattened fifth, and that single added note is where the bluesy, slightly sour sound comes from. This page gives two of them, a D blues scale and a G blues scale, for the days you want the ocarina to sound a little lowdown.

Both step off the plain C scale. The D scale needs G# for its blue note, while the G scale brings in Bb and its own blue note, high C#. The upper end of the page also climbs far enough that high C#, high D and high F open the thumb holes. Take them slowly at first and lean on the blue note instead of hurrying past it.
