About Little Drummer Boy#
The Little Drummer Boy started out as “Carol of the Drum,” written by the American composer Katherine Kennicott Davis in 1941. Later recordings gave it the title most people know today. It is one of my favorite Christmas melodies, and it sounds great on a 12-hole ocarina.
The tune is short, five lines in all, and sits comfortably between C and A#. That A# is the only note off the plain scale, so it is worth playing on its own a few times before you run the whole song. Nothing here asks for a sub-hole or a thumb hole, which leaves your attention free for keeping the rhythm steady, the way a drummer would.
