About Brahms Lullaby#
Johannes Brahms wrote this lullaby in 1868 for his friend Bertha Faber, to mark the birth of her son. Its German title is Wiegenlied, it was published as his Opus 49, No. 4, and it has been sung over cradles ever since. Plenty of people know the tune without knowing it is by Brahms at all.
It is a simple song and a peaceful one to play on the 12-hole ocarina. The tab stays on the natural notes between C and high C, with no sub-holes or thumb holes to manage. The real work is breath: hold the long notes steady and let the phrases rock rather than rush.
Brahms Lullaby Lyrics#
Lullaby - and Goodnight
go to bed now and sleep tight
close your eyes, and start to yawn.
Pleasant dreams until - the dawn.
When the sun, lights the sky.
You will wake feeling spry
Start the day, with a smile
Life is really - worth while
