About Frere Jacques#
Most children will recognize this one, in French or as Brother John. It is a traditional French nursery song and a round, so a second player can start the melody a phrase behind the first and the two lines fit together. Gustav Mahler borrowed it, slowed down into a minor key, for a funeral march in his First Symphony.
The tab runs four lines from C up to high C, all natural notes, with nothing that needs a sub-hole or a thumb hole on the 12-hole ocarina. Each phrase repeats once, which makes it quick to memorize. Once you have it, find a friend with another ocarina and try it as a round. Keeping your own part steady while someone else plays against you is good practice.
