About 99 Bottles of Beer#
Ninety-nine verses is a long time to play anything, but this song was never about the melody. It belongs to the bus and the campfire, nobody owns it, and the same short tune carries every verse, so once you know it you know the whole thing.
That tune is tiny. It never climbs past G or drops below C, and the 12-hole ocarina has plenty of range it never visits: no sub-holes at the bottom and no thumb holes at the top. That makes it a good practice piece for tonguing and rhythm rather than finger stretches. The words sit under the notes. Play it through a few times and see how long you can keep the count going before your lips give out.
99 Bottles of Beer Lyrics#
Ninety-nine bottles of beer on the wall, Ninety-nine bottles of beer. If one of those bottles should happen to fall, There’d be ninety-eight bottles of beer on the wall.
