About Military Taps
#

Taps is the bugle call heard at the end of the day and at military funerals, arranged during the American Civil War in 1862 by Union General Daniel Butterfield with his bugler, Oliver Norton. I tabbed it when the scouts needed it for their ocarinas while practicing a flag ceremony, where it is played as the flag comes down.

A bugle has no valves, so the call is built from only a few notes, and this tab needs just four: C, F, A and high C. That makes it easy on the fingers. The hard part is the long held notes. Keep your breath even so each one stays on pitch, and let the final note fade out slowly.

Military Taps Lyrics
#

Fading light, dims the sight,
And a star gems the sky, gleaming bright.
From afar, drawing nigh, falls the night.
Thanks and praise, for our days
‘Neath the sun, ’neath the starts, ’neath the sky;
As we go, this we know, God is nigh.
Sun has set, shadows come,
Time has fled, Scouts must go to their beds
Always true to the promise that they made.
While the light fades from sigh,
And the stars gleaming rays softly send,
To they hands we our souls, Lord, commend
