About the Song of Healing#
The Zelda series has several melodies written for the ocarina, and this is one of the best loved. In Majora’s Mask, the Happy Mask Salesman teaches Link the Song of Healing, and playing it soothes troubled spirits and leaves their memories behind in a mask. It is a slow, gentle tune that sounds sad and kind at once.
It is also short. The whole tab fits in two lines, eleven notes ranging from D to B, all naturals. Nothing in it needs a sub-hole or a thumb hole on the 12-hole ocarina, so it makes a good first game song. The challenge is in the feel, not the fingering: hold the notes their full length and let it breathe.
